Two weeks ago, I spent a rainy Friday afternoon at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. This was my first visit to the museum and overall quite enjoyed the collection (and the lack of stairs between floors!). Near the top there were these five “diaramas” by Yuken Teruya that stopped me. They were paper retail bags on their sides, ranging from McDonald’s to Godiva. Inside the bag were these amazingly detailed paper trees cut from and still attached to the bag, and the light entering the open tops cast shadows like you’d see in any proper forest. As a friend put it, “pieces like that make you pause and have faith again in the creativity and resourcefulness of people.” Enjoy…
