Everyone loves the earth and a little good design, correct? A few months ago, the lovely Emily Maccombs of Evolve Design contacted me about participating in a design-show house-of-sorts within the latest addition to Birmingham, Michigan’s Triangle District: 735 Forest. The building — a three-level space, housing nationally acclaimed chef Brian Polcyn’s new restaurant Forest Grill on the first floor, offices on the second floor and residential lofts on the third floor — is pursuing LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) from the U.S. Green Building Council. This is accomplished by complying to a set of strict standards involving the use of sustainable materials, efficient construction techniques and an overall environmentally conscious approach.
The model lofts are greenly decorated by five local interior designers, who utilize
locally sourced pieces and artwork, renewable and recycled materials, vintage furniture, and sustainable wood products. I fall in to the locally sourced artwork category and can proudly say that my 2009 Desk Calendar along with the Owl Notecards have a new (show) home on a letter writing desk in E2’s show loft!
To read more about the space, and see more photos, check out the Detroit News’ interview with interior designer, and a co-owner of the property, Ann Heath here.
